Personal Story

My name is Laxmi Ghalan and I was born in 1983 in Hetauda. I am the eldest of of four children. My father used to work in police and so often used to stay out and come home very less.

When I was 16, I started working with with my cousin. There I met a girl and slowly fell in love and after six months people came to know about us and started talked bad things about us so I had to leave. But I couldn't forget her. We often used to meet and talk and finally we decided to live together. Soon my family members came to know about our relation and my father got angry and beat my mother for supporting us. Seeing this my girlfriend left me and the house for ever. I often used to ask myself that being a girl why I like girls more than boy, why am I not like any other girls, but I couldn’t get any answers, I couldn’t find anyone like me.

Two years later I was learn tailoring. There was a girl (Meera) who is a daughter of the master. We began sharing our happiness and sorrow together. We had already reached to point that we couldn’t live without each other. Then one day her sister found about our relation. Meera was locked up in the room and a felt so lonely (her families was trying to get her married) so she tried to commit suicide by poisoning herself. She took 17 days to recover and first thing she asked to call me. I immediately went, and we ran from there and started living together.

On 2002 November I started working in Blue Diamond Society. Since we have spent so much in struggling we were not able to complete our studies. We can't speak English when we meet foreigners and share our problems. We just want to learn English and some the basic computer skills so that we don’t have depend on others. In 2005, with the help of Blue Diamond Society, we were able to register an organization "Mitini Nepal" to help others like us. We had faced lot problem while registering it. Even now we have to sometimes depend on others even in office to writing mails and reports to donor agencies. We encourage and help other lesbian friends to learn English language and basic computer skill so that they don’t face the problems which we have faced and still are facing.
