About us

The Green Tara Trust is a faith-based organisation, following an ecumenical Buddhist tradition called the Western Buddhist Order. Its director and founder, Dr Jane Stephens, is a fully ordained Buddhist within the mentioned tradition and responds to the Buddhist name Karunamati.

No religious affiliation is required to work with the Green Tara Trust; directors, advisors and staff come from a variety of religious, ethnic and caste backgrounds. Approximately 70% of people involved are women and the organisation welcomes people with any sexual orientation.

Our vision:

Is of a world in which every human being can have access to basic health care and education. This, we believe, empowers individuals to exercise choice and take responsibility, enabling them to improve their lives and those of their families and communities.

Our mission:

We aim to contribute to this vision by providing a range of health-related services and training to some of the most disadvantaged children, women and men in rural areas of Nepal.
